Considerations When Developing A Strategy Using Multiple Clouds

The rise of the digital era has driven businesses to develop better systems for data management. This is in line with the ever-increasing integration of data into our day-to-day activities. The use of cloud systems has gained popularity over recent years, leading to the further development of the concept as a whole. As a result, different variations of cloud computing have emerged, such as the use of a multi-cloud strategy. As more businesses move toward digital platforms, knowledge and proficiency in cloud-based systems become more important and relevant.

That is why, in this article, we will take you through some of the key considerations to be had when developing a strategy using multiple cloud systems. By the end of this text, you should hopefully be a little bit more familiar with the concept of multiple clouds as a whole.

Cloud Provider

The first and most obvious consideration to be had is to choose the right cloud service provider. This is extremely important because different providers have different weaknesses and strengths. During this stage, it is critical that you select a service provider that can both: a) complement the qualities of your business and b) meet your performance requirements.

For instance, some providers may feature a cloud system that has more affordable storage pricing options, while others may have a better security system to protect the files that you have uploaded. Much like other types of services, it’s often very difficult to find one that has it all. Bearing this in mind, it usually involves some degree of trial and error as well as extensive planning to be able to work with a service provider that is most compatible with your operations.

Data Management

Data, in all its forms, is important to the business. In one way or another, data can help the business in the performance of its regular business operations. Due to this, data should be accessible and secure. This is easier said than done. In the implementation of a strategy based on multiple cloud servers, it is extremely difficult to ensure the accessibility of data. This is because different cloud service providers have different capabilities and security measures.

In an attempt to provide a solution to this challenge, businesses should develop a data management strategy that includes different features, such as data duplication, backup, and recovery. It’s also a good idea to have multiple layers of backups so as to ensure that data is recoverable, whatever the case may be.

Network and Security

This next concern involves the platform at which data is stored and where it travels. There are certain types of data that are constantly active. This means that it is always on the move. For instance, such data may be constantly passed from the service provider to the end user. In such a scenario, it must be made certain that there are no security gaps between each and every data transfer process. This should be one of the primary concerns of a business organization, regardless of size and coverage.

In the quest for having a better data network and security, organizations can make use of certain tools like virtual private networks (VPNs) or some other network and security tools to facilitate the secure movement of data across multiple environments.

Interoperability, Portability, and Compatibility

A data management system using multiple clouds would be futile if the data cannot easily be transferred from one cloud server to the other. This is one of the main challenges when employing this type of strategy, as it often requires having very specific technical requirements when choosing a cloud service provider. Usually, the common thing that most businesses do is that they apply for multiple cloud servers with one service provider. This ensures that there is a high degree of interoperability because the data is founded on a single platform. However, this could introduce limitations on the part of the business as they would have to rely on one service provider alone.

Again, this entails having to do extensive research as well as trial and error to make sure that the service provider you choose enables you to perform the tasks that you intend to do in a seamless and efficient manner.
