6 Luxury Car Renting Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Like the Bleisure trend, the luxury car rental market is on the rise of late, growing at a rate of 4.6% per year to reach $141 billion by 2028.

First impressions count, and a luxury car helps tick all the right boxes when you’re meeting important clients or colleagues.

Are you considering a luxury car rental service for your next business trip? Be sure to avoid these luxury car renting mistakes.

1. Initial Luxury Car Renting Mistakes

One of the biggest mistakes when researching your options for cars is too little research. Take your time reading online reviews and comparing car prices.

Most people assume luxury car rentals are expensive, but there are some more affordable options, like Sixt, SHAiR, and Turo.

2. Leaving It Too Late

Always book your luxury car well in advance and arrive early to pick it up. Luxury cars aren’t as freely available as economy ones, so make sure you secure yours in time.

Otherwise, you could end up driving whatever vehicle is in stock at the last minute.

Another common mistake is assuming you can hire a luxury vehicle at the airport. Firstly, there’s no guarantee they’ll have the vehicle you want, and secondly, you’ll pay more from an airport outlet.

3. Not Inspecting the Car

Website images don’t always paint an honest picture of the cars available or their current condition. Always inspect your luxury rental car before driving off. For example, if you’re familiar with the brand and its parts, like a BMW, it’s worth checking the condition of key components against what you would typically expect from BMW oem parts online.

Care hire services sometimes overlook small things like scratches on paintwork, or tears in the upholstery. You don’t want to end up paying for an issue you didn’t create.

Check your vehicle and point out any defects right away.

4. Over-Insuring the Vehicle

It’s never a bad idea to take out car rental insurance on a luxury vehicle, provided you aren’t already covered. Some types of auto insurance and travel insurance cover you for car rentals too.

In this case, any extra insurance you pay is taking care of the car rental company and not you.

5. Buying Gas from the Agency

Avoid paying for a pre-paid gas option from the rental company unless you’re going to use a full tank of fuel during your trip.

You pay more whenever you buy gas from the car hire company. Rather fill the car yourself from a nearby gas station and make sure you fill the tank before you return the car.

If your luxury rental requires a special type of fuel, be sure you fill it up with the correct gas.

6. Overdoing it With Your Rental Car

Some car hire companies charge extra if you travel over a certain number of miles in their car. Always check your mileage allowance before you set off.

Likewise, if you return your car late, you’ll pay a full day’s extra rental. Rather, plan to return it at least an hour before the time.

Traveling in Style

By avoiding these cash-sapping luxury car renting mistakes, you might realize you can afford to drive the car of your dreams.

Not only does a luxury vehicle create the right first impression, but it’s also a safe and fun way to travel.
