Make Your HVAC Last Longer: Here’s How

Your HVAC works hard for you. Therefore, you need to take care of it. However, not everyone aware is of how you can take care of your HVAC so that it lasts longer.

Below, you can find some tips that could help you to make your HVAC last longer.

Schedule Twice Yearly Maintenance

It’s important that you get your air conditioner and furnace serviced frequently. Ideally, they will be serviced at least once a year. However, you could make use of las vegas duct cleaning and air conditioning and furnace servicing twice a year.

Servicing these important systems annually won’t highlight any potential issues. Instead, have them serviced every 6 months. The fall and early spring are ideal times.

Regularly Change The Filters

When your HVAC is serviced, the technician will change the filters. However, you should consider doing the same every 2 to 3 months. Some filters can be cleaned and reused. However, others will only last up to 3 months. Change your filters frequently so your HVAC is maintained.

Inspect The Duct Work

Approximately 30% of cooled or heated air leaks from most ducts. As a result, the air can end up in your attic or crawl space. When this happens, your furnace and air conditioner work much harder than they should.

Consider inspecting the duct work at least once a year. Look into the register and see if you can spot any debris, cobwebs, or droppings. Use a flashlight as it will make spotting any potential issues much easier. Remove any debris that you can reach. Be sure to patch up any holes in the duct work, if you can.

Clean All Outdoor Units

As air conditioner units are kept outside it means they’re likely to get dirty. Dust, dirt, leaves, and other debris can collect inside and around the units. Here is where regular cleaning can make a difference. While you may have an annual inspection of the unit, it may not be enough.

Inspect your outdoor unit at least every 2-3 months. Brush the debris off the air conditioner and ensure trees and plants are kept at least one foot away.

Check The Drainage Tube

The drainage tube that is attached to your air conditioner ensures water can escape. Check the drainage tube regularly to make sure it’s not blocked by anything. If you find that the tube is blocked you may have to get it replaced. However, frequent checks can help you to see if anything is causing an issue.

Remove any debris that you find if you can reach it easily. You may need to use a wet vac. Alternatively, using a thin, stiff brush may work well enough.

Your HVAC unit can last longer than you think if you look after it. Use the tips found above to make sure that you take good care of your unit. When you do, it will give you fewer problems. Additionally, it’s less likely that you’ll have to replace it any time soon.
